Ignacio Ramos was beaten by 5 illegal immigrant prisoners this past
Saturday. Prison officials waited until Tuesday to make a statement
regarding this incident. I guess they were busy thinking maybe he did
this to himself? According to Ramos’ attorney, conveniently, no guards
were around at the time of the attack which began with a blow to the
back of the head. Ramos requested medical attention several times
throughout the weekend, but nothing was given to him but some ibuprofen
from a nurse. Prison officials stated that Ramos was only suffering
from minor injuries. He was never examined by a doctor, so how would
they know? As of Tuesday, he had still not seen a doctor. He complained
of injuries far worse than the prison official led the press to
believe.
I am curious to find out what sort of professional
background these ‘prison officials’ have. Why would you put a high
profile prisoner, especially a border patrol agent, in general
population with tons of illegal immigrants? What did they think was
going to happen? Now Ramos is in isolation. However, they expect to
release him again to the general population. No charges have been filed
against these 5 men at the time this article was written and I doubt
there will be. It is my opinion that Ramos and Compean should be moved
to a different federal prison away from danger. If anything, perhaps a
military prison may be suitable for the time being. There should be a
full federal investigation into the operations at this prison including
its guard staff and warden. People should start looking into our own
prison system before accusing our armed forces of torturing terrorists.
These types of attacks occur in every prison in America and nobody does
a thing to stop them.
It has now come out that Compean
reported the shooting to his supervisor at the seen right after the
shooting incident which has landed him and Ramos in prison. Special
Agent Christopher Sanchez documents a conversation between Compean and
his supervisor that explains the decision by all nine Border Patrol
agents and supervisors on the scene not to file written reports. This
would put all 9 agents up for review for not filing a report. This
contradicts US Attorney Sutton’s claim that Ramos and Compean filed
false reports after they cleaned up the mess of the ‘illegal incident’
that they were apart of.
If you recall correctly these men
turned themselves in and were basically presumed guilty before being
innocent according to documents the DHS had. According to a Homeland
Security official and WND, the agency misled Congress. “when it
contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol
agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they
"wanted to shoot some Mexicans" prior to the incident that led to their
imprisonment.”
Apparently these Department of Homeland Security
documents never existed. Ramos and Compean never confessed to shooting
an unarmed suspect. Nor did they state that they were not threatened by
the suspect. They never stated they were out to shoot Mexicans either,
among other things. This was part of the prosecution’s case.
According
to WND, “The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector
General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of
the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press
secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.”
It is clear to me
that there is something fishy going on here. Obviously obstruction of
justice and perjury charges should be filed after a full investigation
by the Justice Department. In light of these new developments, it is
imperative that one of a few things occur. These men could receive a
new trial, they could receive a pardon, or the charges should be
dropped. But the question is, will anybody listen to the facts and come
to their aid?
