McCain should know better.

Last night John McCain stuck to his lying ways when he continued to state that Mitt Romney was for timetables for withdrawal of troops from Iraq.  We all know that this is not the case.  The main stream media loves a good fight especially between Republicans, but enough is enough.  McCain has twisted Romney’s words around and its obvious.  What Romney said was that he supported President Bush’s decision to have private benchmarks with Iraqi leaders.  This is also obvious because we do not need our benchmarks leaked to the press so that the terrorists can exploit a weakness.  John McCain should know better.  After all, isn’t he the war hero?  McCain also stated that Romney did not make a decision backing the troop surge while Romney was the governor of Massachusetts.  Romney certainly did not have access to the classified material that McCain did, nor was he briefed in full about the surge.  But after the surge was announced last January, Romney, did in fact, back the plan.  McCain should know better. 

 
McCain certainly knows what he’s talking about on Iraq, after all this is his job.  But on ‘water-boarding’ I think he is way off base.  “Torture never works” he says.  I understand that McCain was a POW and no doubt tortured by the NVA, but we must remember that ‘water-boarding’ is in no where near the treatment he received and he knows well that our prisoners in Gitmo are treated extremely well.  McCain knows that water-boarding works.  It has been proven to work and has saved thousands of American lives.  If these wacko Islamic fundamentalists need to be submerged for a 30 seconds to give up their terrorist plots, I am all for it.   John McCain, you should be too.  McCain should know better.

 
In Wednesday night’s debate, McCain took a cheap shot at Romney by stating that when Romney helped turn around those companies he helped that he didn’t care about the worker who lost his job.  This is certainly not the case.  McCain doesn’t know much about business or how in order to make money you need to cut some corners.  If a business is failing, you have to let some people go, and many times you don’t want to do that, but that’s business.  They are certainly compensated.  But for someone who has had the same non-business job for 25 years, I wouldn’t expect him to understand how any business works.  He certainly understands how Washington works.  Romney understands how Washington doesn’t work and must be fixed.  Maybe some Senators and Congressmen should lose their jobs. 

 
In reality, all this bickering is bad for the Republican party.  These two men are taking shots at each other instead of debating the issues.  This is something that can be taken advantage of by the Democrats if they so choose.  For that, both McCain and Romney should know better.

The Fight Goes On!

McCain’s win in Florida does not spell disaster for Mitt Romney, in fact it spells disaster to the remaining candidates. Giuliani is done and his support going to McCain will give McCain a slight edge going into next Tuesday. The independent vote is needed by McCain. Many experts argue that that is the only way to beat the Democrats in November. McCain/Giuliani in Novemeber? You know, that would be something.

Huckabee is still in the race, why? Who knows. He won Iowa and that was nice, but not good enough in my opinion. Will he support Romney? Christians and Mormons unite! I’ve been saying all along that Huckabee would make a good Vice President. He is a younger guy, only 52 years old. Lots of time left on his political clock. Romney was close in Florida. Conservatives still like him a lot more than McCain, obviously. They understand that McCain is too left leaning to get any of the conservative agenda accomplished. But apparently the common voter does not. They pick the person not the policy.

Another problem is you have independent voters who lean more to the left voting for McCain. I read recently that many independent voters are registering as Republicans to vote in closed elections. How strange would it be in November when the exit polls show an overwhelming majority of Republicans voted for Clinton!

I realize that the TV guys have nothing better to talk about but trying to predict the future; their future is McCain. The mainstream glows over him like he is their new born baby. They dismiss Romney as being plastic and pandering. How can it be pandering if you are stating facts that people actually LIKE to hear? Next Tuesday is a big one. If Huckabee stays in the race through this then you probably will see McCain rise. After all, those who voted for Huckabee would be more likely to vote for Romney than McCain. The big delegate states are the key for Romney. If he loses the majority of those to McCain, he’s done. If he splits them, we may be waiting for the convention for the nomination. If he takes more of them, he is on his way. We wait and wait and wait. Next Tuesday will be a long night. I will cast my vote and watch the TV like many of you as the results roll in. Hopefully they will be accurate.

Mitt Romney for President!

What an interesting month we have had! It’s only going to get better. Which is why after much deliberation, I have decided to endorse Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination and of course for President. In thinking about this, I realized that Mitt has the best of all the candidates. None of them are perfect and to quote many other conservative writers ‘none are Ronald Reagan’, but Romney has the core conservative principles that will make him the better President over his rivals.

On a side note:
I wish to remind Fox News that ‘flip-flopping’ requires you to change your mind, some would argue, as I would, change it more than once on an issue, hence FLIP and FLOP. I do not see Romney flip-flopping, maybe he flipped, but he certainly hasn’t flopped. We must all understand when people change their minds on issues, or amplify their responses, they are making a correction in their lives. Its better to admit that you were wrong in my opinion, that is respectable. Romney’s competitors have flipped and even flopped on numerous occasions. We can’t hold many of these against them. If a candidate wishes to change their mind on the issue to agree 100% with me, then I am all for that. Maybe they read these articles.

In all seriousness, Gov. Romney shares his views quite openly and honestly not 'plastic' or 'fake' as many analysts call him. Maybe they would like Romney to beef up his image and wear a biker jacket.

On the issues: he is for REAL immigration reform that includes enforcing the borders and laws we have now including some sort of ID card and punishing employers. That’s a good start. He is the best conservative candidate because he believes in limited government, free markets especially in dealing with health care. He has the knowledge and the business know how to help a country which is facing a major financial crisis. He is also for school choice which is an issue President Bush dropped quite quickly after he was in office. He is also for traditional marriage and family values. These are social issues, but they are very important to many voters. Gov. Romney understands that having 2 parents, a mother and a father, are much better and healthier for the child. I’m certain he understands that it is important that parents have more involvement in their children's lives from the TV they watch to the school they attend. All of this will benefit our society in the future.

We have been in need of a person with a strong head for business to run this country for decades. Mitt Romney has the that experience and will make executive decisions like a CEO, not a poll-a-tition. As with any republican, he will have a battle on their hands this fall. I believe that Romney will win if he concentrates on 2 important issues: the economy and national security. Social issues can be pushed to a distant third. Not that they aren’t as important, but I feel that more Americans are looking for a leader to be fiscally responsible first and social second.

My choice is Gov. Romney and I will continue to make my case for him as the election season continues to heat up. If you need to find a combination of all the candidates rolled into one, then look no further than Mighty Mitt! I may expect a lot from him, but we really shouldn’t expect any less, he’s a great guy.

McCain's Issues

Funny how Medved and I disagree on this, but unfortunately we will have to agree to disagree.
Wrote this on my personal blog yesterday, thought I would share it:

1/21/2008:

No surprises this weekend as Mitt Romney won in Nevada and McCain in South Carolina. Although South Carolina was a close call, McCain wins due to the large military presence in that state. This goes to show you that this race is very tight and requires immense scrutiny of the candidates if we are every going to pick the right man for the job. In the past week there has been a little battle in talk radio land between Michael Medved and several of his colleagues. Although, I only was able to hear Laura Ingraham’s response to Medved’s Townhall blog, I will assume that several others probably read it and commented on it. Medved likes Mike Huckabee and John McCain, this is obvious and more power to him. One thing that may bother me about any host is that they must remember that if their audience may or may not agree with them. I certainly do not agree with Medved or John McCain 100%.

John McCain has his mistakes listed on his website as REAL issues:

1) John McCain believes taxes should be low, simple, and fair and has a track record of commitment to these principles.

Why did he vote against tax cut plans/bills by President Bush and others in Congress? Because he does not believe in lower taxes. Everyone on Wall Street agreed that the tax cut plan by the President was the catalyst for the gains in the economy. Apparently McCain never got that memo.

2) McCain on Border Security and Immigration Reform : I have always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure. If we have learned anything from the recent immigration debate, it is that Americans have little trust that their government will honor a pledge to do the things necessary to make the border secure.

Well we all know where he stands on this issue. This is a LIE. The only part of this statement that’s true is that we Americans do not trust the Government to take care of this issue. We certainly do not trust McCain to come up with immigration reform. He has no interest in securing the border properly otherwise he never would have said “I’ll give you your G.D. fence” (fill in the blanks). He also created one of the worst bills in history while working with Ted Kennedy, the Immigration Reform Act. This IRA was code for amnesty and open borders. Of course the American people spoke up and that bill was killed. I wonder if President McCain would sign that bill. I wonder if he will really build that G.D. Fence? -- Probably not.

3) John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench. Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat.

McCain does not want to involve the Supreme Court in the reversal of Roe v. Wade. He would rather have states decide if abortion is legal or not. This is not a major problem, but then of course you would have kids going from one state to another to have abortions, creating it a federal situation. How do you handle that John? As usual, check the ID? Also, if he was PROLIFE why would he put his name on a brief filed last year to the Supreme Court (of all bodies) denouncing a pro life organizations commercials? Calling their commercials a violation of the law he and Russ Feingold created. McCain-Feingold at its finest. Yes that was last year, but how quickly we forget.

I do respect McCain on his service to our country in the armed forces as well as his support for our troops. I will not leave out that he and I do agree on several issues including education choice, certain parts of his national security policy (sans border fence) and the Second Amendment. But many of these are not the top issues and I certainly cannot vote for someone who is misleading Republicans. Is McCain a Republican? Perhaps, but a bit too left wing to be considered CONSERVATIVE.
