McCain's VP Pick

And the winner is? (Drumroll).   Sarah Palin!!

Who????

Many Republicans are asking that question as I write this no doubt. She is the governor of Alaska. Obviously the McCain campaign was thinking that this crucial swing state in the cold white north will be a major turning point in the election. Hardly. Alaska is not a swing state, it holds a very small number of electoral votes and would have gone to McCain in November anyway. So it definitely was not the state. Why did they nominate Sarah Palin you ask? Simple. Hillary Clinton is not running for President or even Vice President. Sarah Palin would be the first woman to hold the office of VP and she is a republican, a conservative one at that.  One problem is that Obama’s team is going to point out her inexperience. McCain lost the experience debate when having her as his running mate, but I believe running a state is much more demanding that being a state senator or a senator in the US Senate for a year.

What worries me is that McCain just lost the edge on the debate on the economy. Had he picked Romney, the economy would no longer be an issue to discuss. Now Obama’s team has yet another thorn in McCain’s side.

Bonuses to Gov Palin :

1)      Her husband is Native American. This is a major bonus.

2)      She has a son serving in Iraq. (So she is definitely experienced in this area, sorry Cindy Sheehan)

3)      She also has a newborn Down Syndrome baby at home. As unfortunate as this is, it will do the country some good to learn about this disease and why it affects so many newborns.

4)      She is Conservative – Much more than McCain is. We just don’t know about what policies of McCain’s she agrees with or disagrees with.

One thing this announcement did was take the fire away from Barack’s speech in his temple on Thursday night. The focus is off Obama and definitely on McCain and the republicans. Perfect timing for going into the convention this upcoming week.

Speaking of Alaska, on a side note:

Somebody needs to phone Mike Gravel and let him know that the primary race is over and that a candidate has been chosen in his party. I think he is still campaigning. What a space cadet. According to wikipedia he is now a libertarian!! Why is it that when these morons don’t contribute anything to their party they always turn into libertarians? Time to retire and go fishing Mike.
